That’s where CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers come in. As a CASA volunteer, you’ll work closely with children, families, and professionals to help judges make informed decisions about a child’s future. A CASA Volunteer works a case by gathering information through interviews and reviewing documents, advocating for the child’s best interests by submitting reports and testifying in court. A CASA Volunteer also monitor the case to ensure court orders are followed until the child achieves permanency. They act as an independent fact-finder for the judge, providing a consistent, child-focused presence throughout the legal proceedings.

CASA Volunteers come from all walks of life, with a variety of professional, educational, and ethnic background. The Elkhorn Valley CASA program works alongside a diverse group of volunteers who may be employed full-time or part-time, retired, a homemaker, and more.

CASA Volunteers are ordinary citizens that are 21 years of age or older. There are no prior educational or training requirements. However, all volunteers undergo multiple background checks and must complete 30 hours of pre-service training.
